The skin on the lips is anatomically different from the rest of the face. Its epidermis is extremely thin, and unlike other areas of the skin, it lacks a horny layer and sebaceous glands. This means it doesn’t benefit from the natural hydrolipidic film that typically protects and moisturizes the skin.
Additionally, lips contain very little melanin, which makes them more vulnerable to UV damage and environmental aggressors such as wind, cold, and pollution.
